V400 Laser Cordless Mouse for Notebooks
This article applies to the following Operating Systems:
Windows XP
windows xp x64
Windows Me
Windows 2000
Windows 98
Cause:
When you use the power saving mode with the V400 mouse, you may experience tracking issues or disconnection problems.
Solution:
1) Tracking Problems:
a) Check for RF interference:
If there is cordless devices using the 2.4GHz frequency, for example a wireless router, access point or cordless phone nearby, you should move these devices further away from other Logitech receiver for troubleshooting purposes. Then verify if the V400 tracking problem persists. If so, then check the surface of your mouse pad or desk.
b) Surface consideration:
Sometimes a dark-colored surface can also cause problems with the V400 mouse when it has been put into power-saving mode. Try it on a light colored mouse pad or on a piece of white paper to see if that resolves the issue. If not, check your configuration as described in step c below.
c) Setting and configuration:
Windows XP, Service Pack 2 has a setting for Enhanced Pointer Precision that can also cause problems for some users. In the Windows Control Panel, uncheck Enhanced Pointer Precision option in the Mouse > Pointer tab. (See Answer ID 2701 for more detailed instructions on how to do this)

2) Connection Issues:
Logitech has implemented a power saving mode to save battery power and sometimes it may appear the mouse has stopped functioning. In face, what has occurred is that the mouse is no longer connected to your PC. If this occurs, you may need to execute the following steps to verify if the mouse is truly malfunctioning:
a) The mouse may be sleeping. To wake up the mouse:
-Move the mouse in circles or side-to-side for 1 -2 seconds to see if you can wake up the mouse.
-You can also wake up the mouse by pressing the [Reset] button found on the bottom of the V400. However, this process will result in the mouse also trying to reconnect to the PC.
b) If the above process succeeds in waking up the mouse but it still does not appear to be functioning, please try turning on and off the mouse.
- To turn the mouse off, remove the dongle from the PC, and place it into its built-in storage compartment in the mouse.
- To turn on the mouse, take the dongle from its storage compartment on the mouse and insert it intoo the USB port on the PC. This process should result in the mouse beginning to function.
c) If the mouse still appears to be functioning incorrectly, or does not work, please try "re-syncing" the mouse as described below:
-With Setpoint installed, go to the Start> Programs> Logitech> Mouse and Keyboard> Connect Utility.
-The Connect Dialog box appears with instructions to reset the mouse connection.
-Follow the instructions in the Connect Utility and verify it is functioning correctly.
If the above steps do not resolve the tracking and/or connection issues, you should contact Logitech Technical Support for further assistance.
