Overview:
HomePlug is the technology that connects devices to each other through the power lines in your home or office. HomePlug-certified products connect PCs and other devices that use Ethernet, USB and 802.11 "Wi-Fi" technologies to the powerline via a HomePlug "bridge" or "adapter." The frequency used for data transmission is in the 20 MHz -40 MHz range

In all, this technology provides a simple solution for distributing connectivity around the home without adding any new wires. WiLife Security System use of HomePlug technology is the power behind the system's incredible ease of setup. Each WiLife Camera is connected by an Ethernet cable or electrical plug to a standard electrical outlet. Because of this, there is no need to configure the WiLife Camera; nor is there a need to install or configure any wireless routers or other networking equipment. Neither does the consumer have to purchase any additional wires, or re-wire their home in order to implement. WiLife application is simply a ladder-less and drill-free setup. Besides the ease of setup, using HomePlug Technology also allows the camera to pass secure video data over existing power lines to the adapter, which then passes the information to the computer.

Best Practices:
For best performance, limit your HomePlug network to 15 total devices. The presence of electric motors, fluorescent lights, halogen lamps, switching power supplies and dimmer switches on your network may diminish HomePlug network performance. Avoid the use of extension cords with your HomePlug devices. HomePlug signals will not reliably pass through transformers or between different phases of a multi-phase power circuit. Operation between two legs of split phase power circuit should normally be satisfactory. If you have any questions about your specific electrical wiring topology, please consult a licensed electrician.

Troubleshooting Tips:
If your HomePlug/USB Bridge is unable to connect to a WiLife Camera, or if camera performance is unsatisfactory, try moving the camera’s power supply module or camera power cord to a different electrical outlet. Also try moving your USB powerline adapter (CRM-110) to a different outlet. Make sure your cameras, power supplies and USB adapter are not plugged into surge suppressor or filtered outlets. Normal GFI outlets do not normally  cause problem unless they also have surge suppression or filters.

If you suspect non-WiLife equipment may be interfering with the operation of the WiLife system (i.e. the system only operates when the other equipment is turned off) placing a low-pass power line filter between the AC line and the non-WiLife equipment may resolve the problem.

To protect your privacy, be sure to set a unique password via the WiLife software. Doing this encrypts your camera data and makes the output unreadable by neighboring HomePlug systems which may be able to detect your signals.
