Using the email feature within QuickCam Software

NOTE: The information in this article is specific to users who wish to utilize the email feature within the QuickCam application. Please know that video or pictures created with your Logitech webcam can be attached as a file at anytime with any email application or email service that support file attachments.

To use QuickCam you will need to install a MAPI compliant Email Client/Application.

What is MAPI?

MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) is an application programming interface (API) designed by Microsoft and is found in many popular email clients.

MAPI supported email clients, such as Outlook and Outlook Express, are email applications that can be installed locally on your computer. When your local email application is launched, it talks to the host servers and manages your email from the installed application rather than login to a web-based interface.

In contrast, most web based email accounts, such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Hotmail, are often not MAPI compliant. This means if you check your email by using FireFox or Internet Explorer to log into a website you will not be able to use the email option in QuickCam.

Determining if your Email Client is MAPI Compliant

If you already have an email client installed and you want to determine if your email program is MAPI compliant:

1.  Right click on any file or folder in Windows.

2.  Select “Send To”

3.  Locate “Mail Recipient” in the options menu.

• If this option is available, you have a MAPI compliant email. Click this option to view and change which email application is used as your primary email client.

  NOTE: If no email application is set to default you may be prompted to setup an email account profile.

• If the option is not available you do not have an email application installed.

Setting up a MAPI Email Client to Web Based Email Accounts

Most web-based email services will provide information and instructions on how to set up your Web based email account with a MAPI complaint email application. This infomation is ususally posted on your email provider's Help or Tech Support site.

Examples of Web Based Email Accounts

(These accounts cannot be used with QuickCam without an Email Client installed).

Common web-based email service providers:
Hotmail
Yahoo mail
Gmail

Common Internet service providers offering web-based email services:
SBC Communications
Cox Communications
Comcast
Road Runner
Earthlink

NOTE: Some email services may have a file attachment size limitation and you may experience problems sending files if the media file size exceeds this limitation. If your email service does have limitations on attached files, verify the file size and use QuickCam to send a smaller image.
